The Philippines is forecasted to experience generally fair weather over the next 24 hours, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa). However, isolated rain showers can be expected due to the easterlies and northeast monsoon, known as “amihan.”
Pagasa has not detected any low pressure area (LPA) within or outside the country’s area of responsibility. This means that there are no significant weather disturbances that could potentially affect the Philippines.
Weather specialist Benison Estareja explained that the easterlies are warm and humid winds that originate from the east, passing through the Pacific Ocean. These winds are currently affecting the eastern section of Visayas and Mindanao, resulting in overcast skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.
On the other hand, the amihan refers to cold and drier winds coming from the northeast. These winds bring rains over the eastern side of the country. Currently, the amihan is affecting Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos Region, where isolated light rains are likely to occur.
In addition to the easterlies and amihan, localized thunderstorms are also contributing to isolated rain showers over Metro Manila and the rest of the country. These localized thunderstorms can bring sudden bursts of rain and thunder, but they are typically short-lived and affect limited areas.
It is important to note that weather conditions can change rapidly, and it is always advisable to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts from Pagasa or other reliable sources. Being aware of the weather conditions can help individuals plan their activities and make necessary preparations.
For those residing in areas experiencing isolated rain showers, it is recommended to have umbrellas or raincoats on hand. Motorists should exercise caution when driving on wet roads, as they may become slippery. Additionally, fishermen and small boat operators are advised to be cautious of possible rough seas and strong winds.
While the current weather outlook suggests fair conditions for most parts of the country, it is still important to stay vigilant and prepared for any changes in the weather. Pagasa continues to monitor weather patterns and provide timely updates to ensure the safety and well-being of the Filipino people.
By staying informed and taking necessary precautions, individuals can navigate through the weather conditions and go about their daily activities with confidence.
