MANILA, Philippines: The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has announced that hot and humid weather is expected to persist in most parts of the country over the next few days. This is due to the slight weakening of the northeast monsoon, also known as “amihan.”
According to Pagasa’s 4 a.m. bulletin, the eastern section of Northern Luzon will continue to experience the effects of the northeast monsoon, resulting in scattered light rains. However, for the rest of the country, the dominant weather system will be the easterlies, which are hot winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.
While generally fair weather conditions are anticipated nationwide, there is a possibility of cloudy skies and scattered light rains due to the presence of the amihan. Additionally, some areas may experience thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon or at night.
Pagasa weather specialist Daniel James Villamil stated, “Based on our extended weather outlook in select cities in the country, this fair weather condition is expected for the next three days in the entire Luzon, including Metro Manila and most parts of Mindanao.”
In terms of maritime safety, Pagasa has issued a gale warning for the seaboards of Batanes, the northern coast of Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte. Fishers with small seacraft are advised not to venture into these areas as waves measuring 2.8 to 4.5 meters high are expected.
Fortunately, there are no low pressure areas (LPAs) currently being monitored both within and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) that could potentially affect the country in the coming days, according to Pagasa.
