The Philippine government has launched an easy step-by-step registration for the Philippine National ID or the PhilSys ID starting April 30.

In line with this, the PSA revealed that the online registration process will only take four steps to complete, which are as follows:

STEP 1: Visiting Registration Centers

Visit any registration center and bring your necessary documents.

As for the physical registration centers, the PSA will designate several registration centers in various locations. They are located at are located at:

  • Fixed Registration Centers in PSA Regional and Provincial Offices
  • Mall-based Registration Centers
  • LGU-based Registration Centers (Local Government Units)

Additionally, the PSA offers mobile registration in remote areas through:

  • PhilSys on Wheels
  • PhilSys on Boat

Important: Be ready with the required documents before going to the registration center.

Documents Required
Primary Documents:

  • PSA-issued Certificate of Live Birth AND one (1) government-issued identification document which bears full name, front-facing photograph, and signature or thumb mark
  • Philippine Passport or ePassport issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA)
  • GSIS or SSS-issued Unified Multi-purpose Identification Card (UMID)
  • Land Transportation Office (LTO)-issued Student’s License Permit or Non-Professional/Professional Driver’s License

If aforementioned Primary Documents are unavailable, proceed to bring any of the following secondary documents:

  • PSA-issued Certificate of Live Birth/NSO-issued Certificate of Live Birth with Birth Reference Number (BreN)
  • LCRO-issued Certificate of Live Birth
  • PSA-issued Report of Birth
  • PSA-issued Certificate of Foundling
  • Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Identification Card
  • Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) ID
  • Seaman’s Book
  • Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) ID
  • Senior Citizen’s ID
  • SSS ID
  • Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) ID
  • License to Own or Possess Firearms (LTOPF) ID
  • NBI Clearance
  • Police Clearance/ID
  • Solo Parent’s ID
  • PWD ID
  • Voter’s ID
  • Postal ID
  • Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) ID
  • PhilHealth ID
  • Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA)-issued Special Resident Retiree’s Visa (SRRV)
  • National ID from other countries
  • Residence ID from other countries

The following shall be accepted as secondary supporting documents (provided they have a front-facing photo, a signature/thumbmark, full name, permanent address, and date of birth.):

  • Secondary IDs
  • Employee ID
  • School ID
  • Barangay Clearance/Certificate
  • Barangay ID
  • City/Municipal ID

STEP 2: Capturing of Biometric Information

To proceed with the next step, the applicant will need to provide your biometric information. You will then provide the biometric Information, including your fingerprint, a front-facing image, and iris scan. You will also need to provide other supporting details for verification.

STEP 3: Review the Biometric Information

Review and confirm your demographic and biometric information before submitting completely.

STEP 4: Issuance of PSN and PhilID

For the third step, you will be issued your PhilSys Number (PSN) and your PhilID will be delivered straight to your door.

Reminder: Do NOT post on social media your PhilID because this document contains your personal information, which hackers might use against you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it mandatory to apply for a national identification card?
Registration for a national ID card is voluntary, according to the statute. The PhilSys would be used to issue and distribute government services, so citizens are strongly encouraged to register.

What is the minimum age to apply for a national identification card?
People of all ages, including newborns, can register with PhilSys.

    Children under the age of five (5) will have only their demographic details and a front-facing photograph collected, and their PSN will be linked to their parent or legal guardian. Their demographic and complete biometric information will be obtained at the time of registration, but once they reach the age of fifteen, they will need to update their information and have their biometrics taken again (15).

    How do OFWs apply for a national identification card?
    The PSA has announced that it will work with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to develop a registration plan for our overseas Filipinos. For returning or departing OFWs, the PSA, in coordination with the DMW has set up registration centers in select DMW offices where OFWs can register for the National ID.
