His Excellency Abdullah Al-Yahya, Minister of Foreign Affairs, disclosed this relocation plan to Al-Rai newspaper, emphasizing the importance of effective representation and support for Kuwaiti citizens in the vast American territory.
Complementing Existing Missions
Minister Al-Yahya highlighted that the new Kuwait consulate in Houston will complement Kuwait’s existing diplomatic missions in Los Angeles, New York, and Washington D.C., enhancing Kuwait’s presence and service accessibility across different regions of the United States.
Diplomatic Mission Closures
Additionally, Minister Al-Yahya noted the cancellation of certain Kuwaiti diplomatic missions in countries like Myanmar, Cambodia, Lao, Gabon, and Zimbabwe. This measure, part of the first phase of a long-term plan, aims to safeguard the interests of Kuwait.
Future Expansion Plans
The ministry envisions a second phase of the plan involving the establishment of new consular outposts and the utilization of existing Kuwaiti institutions, such as the Kuwait Fund for Development, to further expand consular coverage in specific regions.
