The Metro Manila Council has recently passed a resolution that prohibits e-vehicles from operating on major roads in the National Capital Region. This decision, made by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), aims to prioritize the safety of riders themselves.

MMDA chief Romando Artes emphasized the importance of this resolution during a recent announcement. He stated, “This morning, we passed a resolution regarding the regulation of e-trikes and other electric vehicles, which will no longer be allowed on major roads under the jurisdiction of the MMDA.”

The list of major roads where e-vehicles are now banned includes Recto Avenue, Pres. Quirino Avenue, Araneta Avenue, Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), Katipunan Avenue/C.P. Garcia Avenue, Southeast Metro Manila Expressway, Roxas Boulevard, Taft Avenue, South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Shaw Boulevard, Ortigas Avenue, Magsaysay Boulevard/Aurora Boulevard, Quezon Avenue/Commonwealth Avenue, A. Bonifacio Avenue, Rizal Avenue, Del Pan/Marcos Highway/McArthur Highway, Elliptical Road, and Mindanao Avenue.

Artes also mentioned that the number of restricted roads may increase in the future as local government units (LGUs) propose additional thoroughfares for inclusion in the ban.

To ensure compliance with the new regulation, a fine of P2,500 will be imposed on those who violate the ban. Additionally, drivers of e-vehicles are required to possess a valid driver’s license. If a driver is found to be operating without a license, their vehicle will be impounded.

It is important to note that the policy will take effect 15 days after its publication. This grace period allows e-vehicle owners and drivers to familiarize themselves with the new regulations and make any necessary adjustments to their travel routes.
