Flights to Japan Affected After Haneda Incident

Manila, Philippines: Three flights bound for Tokyo were impacted by an incident at Haneda Airport on Tuesday. The runways at Haneda were temporarily closed after a collision between a Japan Air Lines Airbus A350 and an aircraft from the Japan Coast Guard, resulting in the A350 catching fire.

In an announcement on Tuesday, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) informed passengers that two flights bound for Haneda, namely Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight PR 424 and Japan Airlines (JAL) flight JL 78, were put on hold. These flights were scheduled to depart from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminal 1. The PAL flight was originally scheduled to depart at 7:05 p.m., while the JAL flight was set for 11:20 p.m.

The MIAA stated, “Philippine Airlines PR424 is currently on hold, awaiting clearance, while Japan Airlines JL78, scheduled to depart today at 2320H (11:20 p.m.), is also awaiting an announcement.”

Additionally, All Nippon Airways flight NH 870, which departed from NAIA terminal 3 at 2:50 p.m., was diverted to Kansai Airport in Osaka.

Passengers were advised to contact their respective airlines for updates on their flight status.

Tragically, five individuals aboard the Japan Coast Guard aircraft lost their lives in the runway collision at Haneda. However, all 379 passengers on the JAL flight, which originated from Sapporo, survived the incident.
