The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) Takes Action Against Rat Infestation

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has recently taken steps to address the issue of rats that have been causing inconvenience to passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). The presence of rats in the airport terminals has sparked criticism from frustrated passengers, netizens, and influential business groups.

Pest Control Measures Implemented

To tackle the rat infestation problem, the MIAA has enlisted the help of pest control services personnel. These professionals have employed non-toxic methods, such as sticky traps and mouse pads, to capture several rats in the departure area of NAIA Terminal 3. The decision to avoid using poison was made to prevent any unpleasant odors that could affect passengers.

MIAA’s Response to the Situation

MIAA General Manager Eric Ines has expressed his dissatisfaction with the current state of pest control services at the airport. He has warned the providers to improve their services and has even threatened to cancel their contracts if the situation persists. In an effort to address the issue, the pest control personnel have strategically placed mouse traps and mouse pads in areas of the terminals where rats are frequently sighted.

In addition to the rat infestation, passengers have also reported sightings of cockroaches and bed bugs in the airport premises. Videos uploaded by passengers have revealed these pests in terminal seats over the past week. In response to these complaints, Ines has taken responsibility and has promised to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
