Sara Duterte Steps Down as Education Secretary

On Wednesday, Malacañang announced that Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio had stepped down from her position as secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd).

Duterte-Carpio personally submitted her resignation to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier that day, according to Presidential Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil. Her resignation from the Cabinet, her role as Secretary of Education, and her position as Vice Chairperson of the NTF Elcac will become effective on July 19, 2024.

While declining to provide a specific reason for her departure, Duterte-Carpio has confirmed that she will continue her duties as Vice President. Garafil expressed gratitude for Duterte-Carpio’s service during her time in the Cabinet.
