ALMA Group Concerned Over Seafarers’ Employment Challenges
The ALMA Group has raised significant concerns over the newly ratified Magna Carta of Seafarers, which fails to address ‘ambulance chasing.’ This unethical practice hampers employment opportunities for Filipino seafarers, crucial players in the global maritime workforce. Many families invest heavily in maritime education, hoping for lucrative shipboard employment. However, rampant ambulance chasing and corruption prevent many from securing international positions. ALMA and other stakeholders are calling for urgent reforms and government action to include anti-ambulance chasing provisions in the Magna Carta and other regulatory measures to safeguard seafarers’ livelihoods and boost their economic contributions.
