A graduate of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) has emerged as the topnotcher in the recently concluded Bar exams, as announced by the Supreme Court on Tuesday. This achievement is a testament to the academic excellence and dedication of the UST community.
The Bar exams, considered as one of the most rigorous professional licensure exams in the Philippines, saw a total of 10,387 examinees this year. Out of this number, 3,812 successfully passed, resulting in a passing rate of 36.77 percent.
Ephraim Porciuncula Bie, a remarkable graduate of UST, secured the highest score of 89.2625 percent, earning him the distinction of being the topnotcher. Bie’s outstanding performance reflects his exceptional knowledge and preparation for the exams.
Following closely behind Bie are other exceptional individuals who have also showcased their legal expertise. Mark Josel Padua, an alumnus of Ateneo de Manila University, secured the second spot with an impressive score of 89.1250 percent. Frances Camille Francisco from San Beda University ranked third with 88.9125 percent. Aquinas-UST-Legazpi’s Nathaniel Tang claimed the fourth spot with a score of 88.650 percent, while David Flores of De La Salle University rounded up the top five with 87.4250 percent.
Aside from recognizing the topnotchers, it is also essential to acknowledge the institutions that have consistently produced successful Bar examinees. Among schools with over 100 Bar candidates, Ateneo de Manila University emerged as the top-performing school with a remarkable passing rate of 94.08 percent. Out of the 169 candidates from Ateneo, 159 successfully passed the exams.
San Beda University, known for its strong legal program, secured the second position with 130 passers out of 141 takers, resulting in a passing rate of 92.20 percent. The University of San Carlos, based in Cebu, claimed the third spot with a passing rate of 90.91 percent. Out of the 187 candidates from the university, 170 successfully passed the exams.
The University of the Philippines (UP), a renowned institution for its legal education, placed fourth with a passing rate of 89.45 percent. Out of the 256 candidates from UP, 229 passed the exams. UST, the alma mater of the topnotcher, secured the fifth spot with a passing rate of 85.25 percent. Out of the 122 candidates from UST, 104 successfully passed the exams.
