PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called for more nurturing television programs for children as he commended advocates of wise media consumption.

In a message read by Presidential Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil during the Anak TV Seal Awards, President Marcos highlighted the significance of providing necessary guidance to the younger generations in their consumption of media. He emphasized that children learn social behaviors by observing adults and role models, and it is crucial to encourage them to watch shows that will teach them how to engage effectively with their peers, elders, and communities.

President Marcos also called on stakeholders of television networks, celebrities, and journalists to contribute to a positive, nurturing, and inspiring media landscape for Filipino children. He urged them to implement policies and programs that promote responsible TV viewership and to utilize their platforms in advocating for child-sensitive content and promoting media and online literacy.

Recognizing the importance of child-friendly television programs, President Marcos commended the Anak TV Seal Awards for their efforts in recognizing outstanding shows. He acknowledged the crucial role these programs play in shaping socially conscious Filipinos.

The Anak TV Seal Awards is a prestigious national award given by various stakeholders including parents, educators, businesses, and media organizations. The award recognizes programs that promote responsible TV viewership through child-sensitive and friendly show formats.

After a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s Anak TV Seal Awards was held, celebrating the exceptional contributions of television programs that prioritize the well-being and development of Filipino children.

President Marcos’s call for nurturing television programs for children reflects the growing recognition of the impact media consumption has on young minds. As children spend more time in front of screens, it becomes essential to ensure that the content they consume is not only entertaining but also educational and beneficial to their overall development.

By encouraging television networks, artists, journalists, and other stakeholders to promote child-sensitive content, President Marcos aims to create a media landscape that fosters positive values, critical thinking, and social awareness among Filipino children.

Furthermore, the President’s emphasis on media and online literacy highlights the need for children to develop the skills necessary to navigate the digital world responsibly. With the rapid advancement of technology, it is crucial to equip children with the ability to discern reliable information, engage in healthy online interactions, and protect themselves from potential risks.

While the Anak TV Seal Awards serves as a platform to recognize exemplary television programs, it also serves as a reminder to content creators and broadcasters of their responsibility in shaping the minds of young viewers. The awards encourage the production of shows that prioritize the well-being and positive development of children, fostering a media landscape that supports their growth.

As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, it is essential to contextualize discussions on media consumption to an international audience. While President Marcos’s call for nurturing television programs for children is specific to the Philippines, the underlying message resonates globally. Children everywhere can benefit from media that promotes positive values, encourages critical thinking, and fosters social awareness.

By prioritizing responsible TV viewership and advocating for child-sensitive content, we can create a media environment that nurtures the next generation, empowering them to become informed, compassionate, and responsible global citizens.
