Sen. Bong Go’s Efforts to Support Fire Victims and Promote Rental Housing Subsidy Program
Sen. Bong Go has been actively pushing for the passage of Senate Bill (SB) 192, which aims to institutionalize a rental housing subsidy program. His recent aid extended to fire victims in Muntinlupa City further highlights his commitment to addressing the housing needs of vulnerable communities.
On May 10, Sen. Bong Go delivered additional support to 483 families who were affected by a fire in Barangay Alabang. The fire victims received essential items such as grocery packs, water containers, snacks, vitamins, masks, shirts, and balls for basketball and volleyball. This assistance not only provides immediate relief but also helps them regain a sense of normalcy during this challenging time.
During a video call with the fire victims, Sen. Bong Go emphasized his determination to help those in need. He reminded everyone that while personal belongings can be replaced and money can be earned, nothing can replace the value of a human life. His heartfelt words resonated with the victims and served as a reminder of the importance of compassion and support during times of crisis.
In addition to his personal aid, the National Housing Authority, through the Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP), provided financial assistance to the fire victims. This support aims to help them rebuild their homes and start anew. Sen. Bong Go acknowledged that fires, natural disasters, poverty, unemployment, and limited access to affordable housing are some of the factors that contribute to homelessness in the country. By addressing these underlying issues, he hopes to create a more secure and stable environment for all Filipinos.
Senate Bill 192 is a significant step towards achieving this goal. The bill proposes the development of a housing and social protection program that will provide disaster victims with access to the formal housing market through rental subsidies provided by the government. This program aims to bridge the gap between the immediate needs of fire victims and their long-term housing stability. By ensuring that affected families have access to safe and affordable rental housing, the government can help prevent further displacement and provide a pathway towards sustainable living.
Sen. Bong Go expressed his support for the Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP) and emphasized his commitment to continuing its implementation. He believes that by providing fire victims with the necessary resources, such as housing materials like galvanized iron, nails, and cement, they can begin the process of rebuilding their lives. This comprehensive approach not only addresses the immediate needs of the victims but also empowers them to take charge of their own recovery.
Furthermore, Sen. Bong Go’s dedication to improving fire safety and response in the country is evident in his authorship of Republic Act (RA) 11589, also known as the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Modernization Act of 2021. This legislation introduces a comprehensive 10-year modernization program for the BFP, which includes the recruitment of additional firefighters, acquisition of modern firefighting equipment, and provision of specialized training. By strengthening the capabilities of the BFP, Sen. Bong Go aims to enhance their ability to respond effectively to fires and other emergencies, ultimately ensuring the safety and well-being of all Filipinos.
Sen. Bong Go’s efforts to support fire victims and promote the rental housing subsidy program demonstrate his commitment to addressing the housing needs of vulnerable communities. Through his advocacy and legislative initiatives, he strives to create a more secure and inclusive environment for all Filipinos. By providing immediate relief, long-term solutions, and improving fire safety measures, Sen. Bong Go is actively working towards building a better future for the country.
