E-Vehicles Banned on Major Roads in Metro Manila

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has taken a significant step in addressing the growing concerns regarding e-vehicles on major thoroughfares in the National Capital Region (NCR). In a recent announcement, MMDA Chief Romando Artes confirmed that the Metro Manila Council has approved a resolution to ban e-vehicles from certain roads in the region.

The ban encompasses a number of key thoroughfares, including Recto Avenue, President Quirino Avenue, Araneta Avenue, Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), Katipunan Avenue/C.P. Garcia Avenue, Southeast Metro Manila Expressway, Roxas Boulevard, Taft Avenue, South Luzon Expressway (SLEx), Shaw Boulevard, Ortigas Avenue, Magsaysay Boulevard/Aurora Boulevard, Quezon Avenue/Commonwealth Avenue, A. Bonifacio Avenue, Rizal Avenue, Del Pan/Marcos Highway/McArthur Highway, Elliptical Road, and Mindanao Avenue. However, it is important to note that this list is subject to change as local government units determine additional thoroughfares that should be included in the ban.

To ensure compliance with the new policy, violators will face a penalty of P2,500. Additionally, the MMDA has introduced a new requirement for e-vehicle operators – a valid driver’s license. This means that individuals who wish to operate an e-vehicle must possess a driver’s license. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in the impoundment of the e-vehicle.

It is worth highlighting that the implementation of the MMDA’s new policy will take effect 15 days after its publication. This gives e-vehicle operators and the public ample time to familiarize themselves with the ban and make any necessary adjustments to their transportation arrangements.
