After a lengthy wait of six years, the Bureau of Customs (BoC) has finally distributed cash rewards to approximately 4,000 of its employees. These rewards were given as recognition for their outstanding performance in revenue collection during the year 2018. BoC spokesperson Philip Vincent Maronilla confirmed the distribution of rewards, stating that employees received their well-deserved bonuses last week.

The amount of cash rewards varied depending on the employees’ salary grades and their level of performance. Maronilla mentioned that those who were commended for their exceptional performance received between P166,000 and P385,000 each. These rewards serve as a strong motivation for employees to strive for excellence in their work, further enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Bureau of Customs.

The distribution of rewards and incentives to high-performing government employees is a requirement mandated by Republic Act 9335, also known as the “Attrition Act of 2005.” This legislation aims to promote productivity and accountability within government agencies by implementing a system that rewards exceptional performance and penalizes underperformance.

In addition to providing rewards, the Attrition Act also includes provisions for addressing underperformance among revenue officials and employees. Deputy Customs Commissioner Vener Baquiran explained that officials and employees who fail to meet their assigned revenue targets will be transferred to another area of duty. This measure ensures that those who consistently underperform are given the opportunity to improve their performance in a different role within the organization.

Furthermore, Baquiran emphasized that continuous nonperformance can eventually lead to termination from service. This strict approach towards nonperformance reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that public servants fulfill their responsibilities and contribute to the overall development and growth of the country.

The distribution of cash rewards to high-performing employees in the Bureau of Customs is a significant step towards fostering a culture of excellence and accountability within the organization. By recognizing and rewarding exceptional performance, the BoC encourages its employees to consistently strive for excellence in their work, ultimately benefiting the Bureau and the country as a whole.

It is worth noting that the distribution of rewards and incentives is a common practice in many countries around the world. Such initiatives aim to motivate employees, boost morale, and improve overall productivity. By implementing these measures, the Bureau of Customs aligns itself with international standards and best practices in human resource management.

In conclusion, the recent distribution of cash rewards to the employees of the Bureau of Customs serves as a testament to their hard work and dedication in achieving outstanding revenue collection performance. These rewards not only recognize their accomplishments but also motivate them to continue delivering exceptional results. The implementation of the Attrition Act ensures accountability and performance-driven culture within the organization. By adhering to international practices, the Bureau of Customs demonstrates its commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
