The Senate Committee on Women and Children in the Philippines has taken a significant step in addressing the reported cases of human trafficking, sexual abuse, and child abuse within the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KoJC) led by Pastor Apollo Quiboloy. The committee opened a public hearing to investigate these allegations and invited Pastor Quiboloy to attend. However, he chose not to appear in person and instead sent a lawyer on his behalf.

Sen. Ana Theresia “Risa” Hontiveros, the panel chairman, expressed her disappointment with Pastor Quiboloy’s decision to disregard the Senate’s invitation. She emphasized that he should be held accountable for his actions and moved to subpoena him for the next hearing.

“Pastor Quiboloy, you should be the one to appear in the next hearing because you are being subpoenaed by this committee,” Hontiveros stated firmly. She reminded him that he is not exempt from the authority of the state, despite his claims of being the “appointed son of God.”

It is worth noting that Pastor Quiboloy has been boasting about his connections with influential individuals. However, Hontiveros made it clear that he, like any ordinary witness, can only invoke the right against self-incrimination when faced with potentially incriminating questions.

Hontiveros emphasized that the purpose of the investigation is not to persecute any religious group but to address the exploitation of people’s beliefs for detestable abuses. She assured the public that the committee will present more witnesses in the upcoming hearings to shed light on the alleged abuses within the KoJC.

During the hearing, Hontiveros expressed her gratitude to the resource persons and the survivor victims who came forward to share their experiences. She assured them that justice will be served.

This case highlights the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions, regardless of their status or influence. It also serves as a reminder that no one is above the law, and religious beliefs should never be used as a shield to perpetrate abuses.

The Senate’s commitment to investigating these allegations sends a strong message that the protection of women and children is of utmost importance. By addressing these issues, the committee aims to create a safer society for all, where everyone can practice their faith without fear of exploitation or harm.

As the investigation progresses, it is crucial for the public to stay informed and support the survivors who have bravely come forward. Their stories serve as a powerful reminder of the need for vigilance and the continuous fight against abuse in all its forms.

Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that justice is served, and those responsible for any wrongdoing are held accountable. Through a thorough and fair investigation, the truth will be revealed, and steps can be taken to prevent similar abuses from occurring in the future.

The Senate’s efforts to address these allegations are an important step towards creating a society where everyone can live free from fear and exploitation. It is a testament to the commitment of lawmakers to protect the rights and well-being of all individuals, especially the most vulnerable among us.

By shining a light on these issues and holding individuals accountable, we can work towards a future where no one is subjected to abuse or exploitation, regardless of their religious affiliation or beliefs.
