MANILA, Philippines: The late TV and movie icon Jaclyn Jose was cremated on Monday, and her remains lie in state until March 9 at the Arlington Memorial Chapel in Quezon City.
Andi Eigenmann, her daughter with the late actor Mark Gil, disclosed earlier that day that she died on March 2 due to a heart attack at the age of 60.
Several colleagues from the entertainment industry immediately gathered to pay their respects to one of the country’s most revered and decorated actresses.
Seen on the first day of the wake were members of her family Gabby, Ryan, and Max Eigenmann, Sid Lucero, Michael De Mesa, Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil, and former actress and sister of Jose, Veronica Jones.
Andi’s former boyfriend, Jake Ejercito, and their daughter, Ellie, were also in attendance.
Other celebrities who paid their respects to Jose were Claudine Barretto, Alden Richards, Ivana Alawi, Christopher De Leon and wife Sandy Andolong, Lorna Tolentino, Tirso Cruz 3rd, Amy Austria, Sylvia Sanchez, Isabel Rivas, director Adolf Alix Jr., and Allen Dizon.
Each night will be dedicated by her colleagues from GMA, ABS-CBN, Viva Films, and her management team at PPL Entertainment.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Andi expressed her feelings about the passing of her mother through poetry she posted on her Instagram story.
It reads, “Ika’y nasa araw, sa ulan, at sa hangin na aking nilalasap. Umaawit ng kantang puno ng pag-asa at ligaya. Wala na ang sakit. Wala na ang takot. Makikita kita sa mga ulap, maririnig ang iyong mga bulong ng pagmamahal. Magkikita din tayong muli. Sa ngayon didinggin ko muna iyong mga awit.”
Born Mary Jane Guck, Jose is best known as the first Filipino and Southeast Asian to win the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016 for her role as Rosa Reyes in Brillante Mendoza’s socio-political drama film “Ma’ Rosa.”
She was last seen in “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” on ABS-CBN as Jail Chief Supt./BGen. Dolores Espinas.
