Monitoring Health after Traslacion: What Attendees Need to Know

Last week, millions of people gathered in Manila, Philippines to participate in the Traslacion, a procession to commemorate the feast of the Black Nazarene. While this religious event holds great significance for many, it is important for attendees to prioritize their health, especially if they are experiencing flu-like symptoms.

Dr. Rontgene Solante, the president of the Philippine College of Physicians, has advised participants to be vigilant and watch out for symptoms such as cough, colds, weakness, body pain, and sore throat. These symptoms are often associated with influenza-like illnesses, which typically last for about 10 days. If individuals experience these symptoms, particularly if they are accompanied by difficulty breathing, it is crucial for them to seek immediate medical attention, especially if they fall under the vulnerable sector.

It is important to note that most viruses have an incubation period of three to five days, and in some cases, up to one week. Therefore, devotees are urged to begin monitoring their health from the moment they return from the procession.

While the Traslacion is a deeply spiritual and cultural event, it is essential to prioritize personal well-being. By being proactive in monitoring one’s health and seeking medical assistance when necessary, attendees can ensure a safe and memorable experience.
