Healthy citizens are more productive, can contribute more to the economy, and lead fulfilling lives,” Go said in his speech during the National Nutrition Awarding Ceremony organized by the National Nutrition Council (NNC) on Monday, February 12.

The chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography praised the LGUs and BNSs for their pivotal role in improving the nutritional status of their communities.

“Malnutrition and all its forms continue to be a persistent issue that requires our collective action. Let us renew our commitment to addressing hunger, achieving food security, and improving nutrition. Go highlighted his efforts in the Senate, mentioning that he had filed Senate Bill 2399, which seeks to declare April 7 as Barangay Health and Nutrition Workers Day. This bill aims to recognize the invaluable contribution of health and nutrition workers in the barangays.

Furthermore, Go shared that the Senate has approved an increase of over P180 million in the budget allocated to address the nutritional needs of poor Filipinos. This increase in funding demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing the pressing issue of malnutrition and improving the overall health of the population.

The recognition and support for the LGUs and BNSs in their efforts to enhance nutrition standards and practices are crucial steps towards achieving a healthier and more prosperous nation. By investing in the health and well-being of its citizens, the government is also investing in the future resilience and productivity of the country.

It is important to recognize that malnutrition is a multifaceted issue that requires the collaboration and coordination of various sectors. The collective action of the government, private sector, civil society, and communities is essential in addressing hunger, achieving food security, and improving nutrition.

By commending the efforts of LGUs and BNSs, Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go is not only acknowledging their dedication but also inspiring others to take action in their own communities. The recognition ceremony serves as a platform to showcase best practices and encourage further innovation in the field of nutrition.

Sen. Go’s proposed Senate Bill 2399 is a testament to his commitment to supporting the health and nutrition workers in barangays. By designating a specific day to honor their contributions, the bill aims to raise awareness and appreciation for their tireless efforts.
