The EPAHP Program
The EPAHP program, which was launched in 2022, is a comprehensive strategy that seeks to address the root causes of hunger and poverty in the country. It recognizes that achieving zero hunger requires a multi-sectoral and multi-dimensional approach, involving not only the agriculture sector but also health, education, social welfare, and other related sectors.
Implementation of Interventions
Under the EPAHP program, government agencies and LGUs are encouraged to work together and coordinate their efforts to ensure the efficient and effective implementation of various interventions aimed at eradicating hunger and improving nutrition. This includes the promotion of sustainable agriculture practices, the provision of access to quality healthcare and nutrition services, the enhancement of social protection programs, and the strengthening of education and skills development initiatives.
National Task Force on Zero Hunger
To facilitate the implementation of the circular, President Marcos Jr. has directed the creation of a National Task Force on Zero Hunger, which will serve as the lead coordinating body for the EPAHP program. The task force will be composed of representatives from various government agencies, LGUs, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders.
Data-driven Decision-making and Monitoring
Furthermore, the circular emphasizes the importance of data-driven decision-making and monitoring and evaluation in the fight against hunger. It calls for the establishment of a comprehensive monitoring and reporting system that will track the progress of the EPAHP program and ensure accountability and transparency.
Strategic Imperative for Development
President Marcos Jr. believes that achieving zero hunger is not only a moral imperative but also a strategic imperative for the country’s development. He recognizes that hunger and malnutrition not only have immediate negative impacts on the health and well-being of individuals and communities but also hinder economic growth and social progress.
