Sen. Bong Go Advocates for the Protection of Marginalized Workers

Sen. Bong Go has been a staunch advocate for the well-being and protection of marginalized workers, particularly those in rural areas who often face limited economic opportunities. Recognizing the need to uplift these individuals and provide them with the support they require, the senator has taken various initiatives to address their needs.

Extending Aid to Displaced Workers in Bacolod City

On May 2, Sen. Bong Go and his team visited Bacolod City to extend aid to 500 displaced workers. Understanding the challenges faced by these individuals, the senator’s team distributed shirts and sports equipment such as basketballs and volleyballs to provide them with a means of recreation and engagement. Through this gesture, Sen. Bong Go aimed to uplift the spirits of the beneficiaries and show his commitment to their well-being.

In a heartfelt video message delivered in Filipino, Sen. Bong Go emphasized the importance of collective efforts in improving the welfare of disadvantaged and displaced workers. He urged everyone to continue supporting one another and work towards building a stronger society for all Filipinos.

Senate Bill 420: Empowering Rural Workers

In line with his commitment to uplift marginalized workers in rural areas, Sen. Bong Go filed Senate Bill 420. This bill seeks to provide short-term job opportunities for eligible individuals from underprivileged households in rural regions. By complementing the existing Rural Employment Assistance Program (REAP), which falls under the jurisdiction of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), SB 420 aims to create additional avenues for employment and economic stability.

If passed into law, REAP will offer temporary employment opportunities to individuals who qualify as economically disadvantaged, impoverished, displaced, or seasonal workers. This initiative will not only provide immediate relief but also equip beneficiaries with the necessary skills and experience to secure long-term employment opportunities.

Furthermore, beneficiaries of the program will also have access to livelihood support from the DOLE. Upon completion of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers Program, individuals will receive assistance in establishing their own livelihoods, ensuring their sustained economic well-being.

Promoting Accessible Healthcare through Malasakit Centers

Sen. Bong Go, as the Chairman of the Committee on Health and Demography, has been a strong advocate for accessible healthcare for all Filipinos. Recognizing the challenges faced by individuals with limited resources, especially in terms of medical assistance, he introduced the Malasakit Centers program.

The Malasakit Centers program, which Sen. Bong Go authored and sponsored with Republic Act 11463, aims to streamline access to the government’s medical assistance programs for poor patients. This initiative serves as a one-stop-shop where individuals can conveniently avail themselves of medical assistance from various government agencies.

With the institutionalization of the Malasakit Centers program, there are now 164 centers spread across the country. These centers serve as a beacon of hope for individuals in need, providing them with the necessary support and guidance to navigate the complexities of the healthcare system.

Conclusion

Sen. Bong Go’s unwavering commitment to the protection and well-being of marginalized workers, particularly those in rural areas, is commendable. Through his various initiatives, including extending aid to displaced workers, filing Senate Bill 420, and promoting accessible healthcare through Malasakit Centers, he has shown his dedication to uplifting the lives of Filipinos.

By prioritizing the needs of disadvantaged and displaced workers, Sen. Bong Go is striving to create a more inclusive society where everyone has equal access to economic opportunities and essential services. His efforts serve as an inspiration for others to join in the pursuit of a stronger and more prosperous Philippines.
